SHAH ALAM – UNISEL in collaboration with the Karangkraf Media Group, has agreed to provide full scholarship and finance the studies of Mohd Haikal Jefri, 16 who is the eldest of five siblings to have tragically lost both parents in a freak road accident at Jalan Loke Yew, Kuala Lumpur last May. Their parents, Jefri Mohd Zain, 46 and wife Noorsalawati Ibrahim, 40 were killed instantly after being run over by a lorry on their way to work.

The idea to help Mohd Haikal came after the university learned of the tragic news from the media. It is understood that he is now a form four student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

The scholarship will enable Mohd Haikal to take up any academic programmes offered by UNISEL once he completed his SPM examinations cover all tuition fees as well as free accommodation throughout his study.

This scholarship offer is part of UNISEL’s and Karangkraf’s corporate social responsibility in helping those in need. However, this offer will depend upon Mohd Haikal’s SPM results that shall determine which programmes he can qualify for.

The sad news of the loss of Mohd Haikal’s parents received the attention and sympathy of many Malaysians. And as the eldest child, Mohd Haikal carries a huge responsibility to help secure the future of his younger siblings, thus the scholarship would provide him the chance to do so.

Efforts to raise corporate social responsibility awareness have long been practised here at UNISEL. The trust fund launched by the President and Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Anuar Ahmad on March 13 was another effort, planned to drive more donations from the public and enhance knowledge enrichment.
