SHAH ALAM- YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Setia Ismail Adam will continue on to a third term as UNISEL Pro-Chancellor after his reappointment ceremony at UNISEL’s Shah Alam campus earlier today. YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Setia Ismail Adam, who has held the position since 2011, will remain as Pro-Chancellor for a further three years, effective 8 March next week. As former Director of the Public Service Department (JPA), Tan Sri Dato Setia Ismail Adam has had many years of service in human resource management and policy making at various government departments and ministries. His expertise as an administrator at a national level has been an invaluable asset to the university and will continue to help lead the way to being recognised as a central hub for useful knowledge both locally and internationally.

The ceremony saw the handing over of the credentials by UNISEL Chancellor, YAD Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad Alhaj Raja Tun Uda Alhaj, witnessed by UNISEL Pro-Chancellor, YBhg Dato’ Setia Dr. Anuar Masduki, Selangor Chief Minister cum Chairman of the UNISEL Board of Directors, YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and UNISEL Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr. Anuar Ahmad. Other attendees included Selangor Education Exco cum UNISEL board member, YB Dr Hjh. Halimah Ali, who was among other members of UNISEL’s Board of Directors. The university’s management executives, who include Heads of Departments and Faculty Deans, were also present.

In his addressing speech, Prof Dr. Anuar Ahmad thanked the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellors for always having guided him in managing the university and delivering quality education to students.

According to the Vice Chancellor, UNISEL has taken a two-pronged approach- to appoint, train, enhance and develop the potentials in young lecturers as they progress from tutors to being scholars and professors in their fields.

This strategy, he adds, is needed to enable UNISEL to achieve the yearly key performance indicator (KPI) target set.

The university would like to thank the Chief Minister of Selangor, who as the Chairman of the Board of Directors has been ever supportive and given his full belief in us to lead and educate the students of UNISEL.

In his Chief Minister’s speech, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim hopes that all academics will take part in rejuvenating the academic culture whereby they become the drivers of the mind and the catalyst to technological advancements in Malaysia. He insists that UNISEL should no longer have academics who just stick to conventional teaching methods that only make use of textbook references and very few scholarly materials

“It’s not impossible for UNISEL to emerge as a top university that would be sought after by prospective students from around the world when there is a collaborative effort from the management team, academics and students to be so.

Therefore, the state government has made available a support system that includes scholarships for all public servants and their families who wish to further their studies. This year, the state has allocated RM 5 million for just that,” he adds.

A university exhibition was also held in conjunction with the ceremony today. All the guests of honour were taken around a small tour that explained the significance and achievements of each of UNISEL’s faculties and research centres in the Shah Alam campus.

The ceremony was a rather moderate one but has become part of another milestone for the university.

UNISEL would like to congratulate YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Setia Ismail Adam for being reappointed as the university’s Pro-Chancellor and we hope to see UNISEL become better as a recognised world class institution, producing quality graduates through quality education.
